Day one: fortuitous encounter with malaria researchers Sarah Sebastian and Michael Povelones.

Visit to insectory – Anopheles mosquito-world. Contained, monitored, injected, investigated.

A greenhouse. An Incubator.

Netting. Sugar-water nutrition.

Attempts at layman’s terms for my benefit. Humbling, fascinating witnessing such a  foreign passion.

Found out about incredible  Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) present in the parasites in the mosquito’s gut.

Microscopy so beautiful, contrast of the neutral with the synthetic high green tones. Already hooked – sudden rush of excitement – finally a legit reason to incorporate fluorescence into the work? Itching to get to it. Or maybe that’s the mosquito bites.
